'Outside The Box' June - October 2024
Outside the Box united artworks from my early- and mid- career with new elimination block prints and sculptures from my most recent 'Box" series.
Those of you that know my work have followed my fascination with patterns, shapes and colours as well as the birds and their multitude of characters will understand my use of birds to express social commentary about current issues in our world.
In this series of new works I used birds to playfully symbolise individuals and groups, depicting their reactions to different situations.
The pieces explore the notion of how contemporary societies often categorise people into boxes.
Birds are depicted in a range of encounters with the "box", from stepping into it to flying out of it.
The box in each work takes on a different meaning, representing a sanctuary, a group, a classification or an escape.
